2019 - IN REVIEW
2019 was a
year of incredible highs and lows. I know I am little late for this review, but oh well, at least I am doing it! One year ago, on 31 December 2018 I stood on
a beach side as I tried to pick myself up and start anew. That didn’t last long
though. I spent the last month of 2019 with family in Dubai. And like 2018,
once again I stood in front of the sea watching the last sun set of 2019, I chose
to reflect on what a difference one year had made in my life. So, here are some
changes that happened during 2019 that I consider as significant achievements of
my life.
CAREER
The last
few months of 2019 had been quite intense for me career wise. I took on a lot
of things with a 9-6 job and side projects. I've never learned so much in my
life! The learning curve had been so steep that on numerous times, I wondered
why I even left the safe decision of pursuing a graphic design career. But
there I was ending 2019 with a career in digital marketing.
Also, after
years of debating and internal low confidence I took the plunge into blogging. As
of December 2019, it has been almost 6 months of me blogging (writing and managing
my Instagram). Though I am still figuring out the blogging and Instagram game, i
am proud of myself for not giving up till now.
HEALTH
In 2019, I decided
to take care of my health and give it the utmost priority. Self-love and health
over everything. I stopped eating junk food for most part unless I was really
badly craving some MacDonald’s or KFC or pizza for that matter. And when I did
have junk, I decided not to blame myself. Started taking vitamins regularly,
have a fulfilling smoothie quite often and finally let go of the weight stereotype,
not listening to people who kept saying I was gaining some weight. I considered
it as healthy weight gain because personally I thought I needed some for m own
good.
FRIENDS & FAMILY
I let go of
a lot of toxic friends and relationships in 2018 and 2019. It wasn’t easy and I
had to force myself to be rock solid and uncaring at times, but I did it. I left
them in the past. Similarly, I chose to unhear a lot of stereotypical things
that are said by relatives once a desi girl turns 25, moreover finishes her
masters.
FINANCE
With everything
in my life being so overwhelming in the latter 2019, I began to put my finances
on autopilot, saving as much as I could. I managed to save some from the salary
I got from my job and some from the expenses that my parents sent me monthly. However,
most of that got spend on gifts when that I bought for my family (which I don’t
regret even the tiniest bit). I started to put amount goals for every week and
month that I had to reach no matter how I did it.
Finally, I learned
that your successes may or may not be the result of your original goals, but
they are important. Our life is precious. Let's make every day count. If you
need to make a change to create a better life for yourself, do it - it may be
uncomfortable, but change is worth it.
...XOXO....
